CAN'T BUY ME LOVE Being in a loving relationship makes us happier than getting a pay rise, study shows
The Study shows unemployment, depression and anxiety reduced the average person’s happiness by about 0.7
points on a scale of 0-10.
Doubling a person’s income raised well-being by 0.2 points on a scale of 0-10, while a partner boosted it by
0.6 points.
The London School of Economics examined studies of 200,000 people worldwide to determine how different
factors had an impact on wellbeing.
“Compared to previous years, men now rate having a partner as more important for happiness, likely a sign that
men are freer to express emotions today.”
The LSE’s Sara Bruno said the Government should shift emphasis from wealth creation to “wellbeing creation”.
Its focus has been on poverty, unemployment, education and health.
She said: “Equally important now are domestic violence, alcoholism, depression, anxiety, alienated youth and
exam-mania.”
