'CHAMPION OF THE HOUSE' Who is Sofia Cancio and what’s her voting record?
Sofia Cancio, Copper party MP, has established a reputation as a reliable and capable member of parliament.
But who is Cancio, and what was her powerful speech that went viral about?
Sofia Cancio was born in September 1994. When she was sworn in, she had recently completed her first class
undergraduate degree.
In her first speech after being appointed to the Work and Pensions Select Committee, she took a stance against
the government's approach to unemployment.
In an authoritative speech, Cancio became the first MP to publicly denounce the recent vote on revoking
government spending for training schemes in Parliament.
Otherwise she votes the same way as her party on the "vast majority" of issues.
Sofia Cancio said she looks forwards to the next election as she “thrives” in parliament and finds it “rewarding”.
Asked directly if she will stand for re-election, she said: “Definitely. I think anyone who feels there is a
need for their ideas in politics, should consider being the one to bring those ideas in.”
