'BABY OF THE HOUSE' Who is Sofia Cancio and what’s her voting record?
Sofia Cancio, the youngest female MP ever, has established a reputation as a passionate and emotional member
of parliament.
But who is Mrs Cancio, and why did she drop the "C-bomb" in Parliament?
Sofia was born in September 1994. She was sworn in just weeks after marrying successful entrepreneur
Stefano Cancio.
In her maiden speech after being appointed to the Work and Pensions Select Committee, she slammed off the
government's approach to unemployment.
In an impassioned speech, Sofia became the first MP to use the C-word in Parliament while rebelling against
the party vote on revoking government spending for training schemes.
Otherwise she votes the same way as her party on the "vast majority" of issues.
Mrs Cancio said she could stand down at the next election as she “hates” being in parliament and finds it
“depressing”.
Asked directly if she will stand for re-election, she said: “I don’t know. I think you should only stand in
politics if you know you will be able to get anything done.”
