'NEWCOMER OF THE HOUSE' Who are the Copper party and what’s their voting record?
The Copper party, the smallest party to join government, has established a reputation for passionate and
capable members of parliament.
But who are the Copper party, and why did they include profanities in an official statement?
The Copper party was established in September 1994. When they first entered parliament, they just barely passed
the threshold for electoral representation.
In their first official statement to the Work and Pensions Select Committee, they slammed off the government's
approach to unemployment.
In an impassioned statement, the Copper party became the first party to use profanities in an official document
while rebelling against the parliamentary vote on revoking government spending for training schemes.
Otherwise they vote the same way as the governing block on the "vast majority" of issues.
The Copper party said they could stand down at the next election as they find their core issue, reducing
unemployment, is no longer a key issue.
Asked directly if they will stand for re-election, their communications department said: “It is unlikely. We
believe a party should only stand in politics if they are needed, and our goals have largely been met.”
