News Consumption Research

Welcome! You are invited to participate in a short online research study through a survey about news consumption and social media administered by Alex Moehring and Carlos Molina, PhD students and researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

What to expect: the survey is divided into three sections. First, we ask some demographic and political questions. Second, we present real-time information on the ideology of the political news to which you are regularly exposed to on Twitter, which might affect the information that you share with others, and ultimately how you are perceived by them. We will also explain how you could change the political bias to which you are exposed. Third, we end with some additional questions and also ask for your feedback (optional). For reference, most participants in the past have completed our survey between 8 and 10 minutes.

Incentives to participate: in addition to learning about the political bias of the news that you are regularly exposed to on Twitter, you will participate in a first lottery for two hundred dollars ($200) if you complete the survey. You might be selected to participate in a bonus lottery if you complete a task.

Twitter handle: to participate in the survey, we will ask you to provide your Twitter handle. It is important that you provide us with an account that you check regularly and that your Twitter handle is correct, as we will use this account to send you payment if selected through an electronic gift card. At no point in this survey will we have control or request control over your Twitter account.

It is very important for the success of the research that you answer honestly and read the questions carefully before answering.

Insert your Twitter Handle below: {{ form.twitterHandle }} {% if form.twitterHandle.errors %}

{{ form.twitterHandle.errors.0 }}

{% endif %}

The Twitter Handle is public information and visible once your log-in on your account (if you don't know how to locate your Twitter handle in your account see an example here).
