You are invited to participate in a research study, entitled "Exploring the effects of advisor updating strategies and environmental stability on learning and performance trust", conducted by Trisevgeni Papakonstantinou (email: trisevgeni.papakonstantinou.19[at]ucl.ac.uk) under the supervision of Prof. David Lagnado (d.lagnado[at]ucl.ac.uk) from University College London.
The purpose of this research study is to examine how people update their mental models. As part of the study, you will play a fishing game and complete a short questionnaire at the end. If you agree to participate, you will be presented with a game where you will be asked to make a decision on which lake to fish from in every round. This is presented on the computer screen. You will indicate your responses to some questions about the game and characters involved. Some anonymous demographic questions, such as age, gender, highest education level, and income are included.
The activity will take approximately 15 minutes of your time.
Participation and Withdrawal
Participation in this study is voluntary and there are no negative consequences to withdrawing participation. This study has been processed by the Research Ethics Committee at University College London and the study number is EP/2018/005.
All data will be handled according to the General Data Protection Regulations and will be kept anonymous (your name will not appear in any publication related to this study and will not be shared with any other parties). We will not be collecting any identifying information. The legal basis for processing your data is public interest. Any sensitive personal data (your gender / your political orientation etc) will be stored safely in accordance with GDPR guidelines and will not be linked with any identifying information about you. The legal basis for processing your personal data is your consent.
Completely anonymous datafiles will be shared online in accordance with open-science practices. If you do not consent to de-identified data being shared, please close your browser window and do not hit the submit button. Once de-identified data have been shared, it may be difficult or impossible to withdraw consent for your anonymous data to be used. Please only continue if you are happy for your anonymous data to be used in this way.
By continuing, you are consenting to allow the researchers to use your responses in the study for academic purposes and consenting for your anonymised data to be shared. Please do not leave or exit the tab before completion if you'd like your response to be recorded.
