Welcome to the offer game. You and another player will play the game together, but only once. You will either be allocated the role of proposer or responder.
If you are allocated the role of proposer, your task is to distribute money from an endowment, which will be a random amount of money (ranging from 30 cents to 160 cents). You will see this amount on your screen, but the other player (the responder) will not. There are two decisions you need to make.
Firstly, you must tell the responder how much money is in the endowment. Because they can't see the amount, you can either be honest (tell them the true amount), or dishonest (tell them a different amount). Being dishonest may give you the opportunity to keep more money.
Secondly, you must then actually choose how much money to offer to the responder. If the responder accepts the offer, you get to keep the remainder of the endowment. However, if the responder thinks the amount is unfair, or thinks you have been dishonest about your initial endowment, they may reject the offer and both of you will lose the money.
If you are allocated the role of responder, your task is to accept or reject the decision of the proposer. There are two responses you need to make.
Firstly, you must report whether you trust how much the proposer says the initial endowment is. The proposer will not see this response.
Secondly, you must choose either to accept or reject the offer. You can accept or reject whether or not you trust the proposer.
If you accept the offer, you will be allocated the money offered to you by the proposer. If you reject the offer, both you and the proposer will receive no money.
Remember that this game only has one round.
