Dear Participant,

You are invited to take part in research on decision making, in which you will make decisions with real monetary outcomes for you and other participants.

<br><br>

This information letter provides you with information about the type and methods of the study in which you are about to participate. It is therefore important that you read this document carefully.
Furthermore, you will receive an Informed Consent form at the bottom of this page and will be debriefed after completion of the study.

<br><br>

If you agree to participate in this study, you will be asked to perform an online survey and an in-lab decision-making task.
The total duration of your participation will be approximately <b>70 minutes</b> (i.e., 20-30 minutes for this survey and 50-60 minutes for the in-lab decision-making task).
You will be compensated for your participation with either <b>payment</b> (€5.00) or <b>credits</b> (2.5), independent of your performance.
In addition, depending on your decisions in the experiment <b>and</b> the decisions of your interaction partners, you may earn a <b>further monetary payment</b> (between €0 to €18.50).
You learn more about this payment from the task instructions soon. After the experiment is finished, your earnings will be calculated and paid out to you to your bank account.

Below, you will find information about the type and methods of the study in which you are about to participate. It is important that you read this information closely.

<b>What is going to happen?</b>
<br>
<ul>
<li>	Participation in this study takes up to 70 minutes.
<li>	After you have read this information brochure and provided your informed consent, you will receive the instructions.
<li>	In this experiment, you will make a number of decisions. Each time, performance and earnings will be measured. Your decisions and the decisions of the other participants will have real consequences on your and their monetary compensation.
<li>	At the end of the in-lab study, you will receive a debriefing.
<li>	Everything will be executed as stated in the instructions. There is no hidden information and no deception in this study.
</ul>

<b>Financial compensation</b>
<br>
<ul>
<li>	You will be compensated for your participation with a fixed payment or credits, independent of your performance.
<li>	<u>In addition</u>, depending on your decisions in the experiment and the decisions of your interaction partner, you may earn a further payment.
<li>	You will learn more about how to earn this payment in the instructions of each task. After the in-lab experiment, your earnings will be calculated and paid out to you via bank transfer.
</ul>

<b>You are welcome to participate if you:</b>
<br>
<ul>
<li>	Are aged above 16 years old.
<li>	You have a sufficient understanding of written and spoken English.
</ul>

If you do not fulfill any of the above criteria, please let the experimenter know right away.

<b>Voluntary participation</b>
<br>
<ul>
<li>	You can withdraw your participation at any point. You are free to do so without providing any justification. If you withdraw your consent, your personal information will be removed from our database.
<li>	If you now decide not to participate in this experiment, this shall have no consequences for you. If you decide to withdraw during the experiment, you will still receive a compensation based on the time you spent on the current experiment. You will not, however, be eligible for extra earnings as these require you to complete the experiment.

<b>Confidentiality of study results</b>
<br>
<ul>
<li>	All measures taken in this study are for scientific purposes only.
<li>	Your responses cannot be traced to your identity. All information collected during this study is confidential and data storage will be coded such that your data cannot be traced back to your identity.
<li>	We keep your personal data (name, email address) securely and separated from your coded responses, for 30 days after the experiment has finished. During this time, you can contact us to remove your experimental data from our database. After this period, your personal data will be permanently removed.
<li>	Coded responses in the task (no personal information) will be made publicly available thought the DANS (Data Archiving and Networking Services), upon publishing scientific report from the current study.
</ul>

<b>Debriefing</b>

At the end of this session, you will receive a short summary of the purpose of this study.

Hereby, I declare that:

<li> I have read and understood the information brochure about the study. I could ask clarification questions. My questions have been answered adequately. I have had sufficient time to decide whether or not to participate.
<li>	I am aware that participation in this task is completely voluntary. I know that I can discontinue my participation in the task at any point during the task. I do not have to provide a reason for that. I understand that upon discontinuation of the task, I will receive a compensation of 3.50 euro.
<li>	I give consent to use my coded data for the purposes that are mentioned in the information brochure. I understand that I can only participate in the study upon signing the informed consent.
</ul>
