You are invited to participate in a research study about how people use information when making decisions in multi-stage selection funnels (such as hiring). Adults ages 18 or older who are U.S. residents are invited to participate.
If you choose to be in the study, you will complete a survey in the form of an online decision-making task. In each round, you will evaluate a set of candidates using numerical scores from multiple stages (e.g., Resume, Zoom interview, and In-person interview). Depending on the condition you are assigned to, you may either make one final hiring choice or make a series of advancement choices across stages before making the final hiring decision.
The survey will take about 15 minutes to complete. You may skip any question you do not want to answer. Even if you start the survey, you are not required to complete it. You can stop at any time.
We collect your Prolific ID in order to provide your payment and any performance-based bonus. We will unlink your Prolific ID from your response data once payments are completed and store the research data in a secure folder that only approved personnel can access. Nevertheless, there is some risk of a breach of confidentiality (for example, through unauthorized access). Please do not include your name or other information that could be used to identify you in any open-ended responses.
If you decide to participate, you will receive $4 base compensation plus a bonus of up to $6 based on your performance in the task, to thank you for your time.
Being in this study is voluntary. Please contact Eunjee Kim at eunjee.kim@wisc.edu or Jordan Tong (jordan.tong@wisc.edu) or Xiaoyang Long (xiaoyang.long@wisc.edu), with questions about this study.
