Purpose of this Study: This short study is part of a broader study on interdependence and cooperation. The aim of the study is to increase understanding of cooperation. Specifically, we tested how reciprocal relationships can develop into interdependent relationships. In an interdependent relationship, people have a vested stake in their partners survival/wellbeing because of the by-product benefits they receive from that relationship. Therefore, if a reciprocal relationship does indeed create stake, people should be willing to pay to increase their partner's survivability even if it is done anonymously. This is the hypothesis that was tested with this task. We anticipate more money spent to save cooperative partners than uncooperative partners or partners that players have not engaged with.
