Now, you will be playing for rice and money and we want to measure how men and women interact in different situations. You will be playing this game against a man in a different village. He will not know who you are and neither you will know who he is, we will only tell you both about each other’s age and education.
There are two plates of rice, one is the good plate and the other is not as good. The good plate has more meat and than the bad plate. You can choose either one of the plates of rice to keep for yourself. The other plate will be given to the man. But there are conditions and consequences to
your choice. Since you get to choose the plate for yourself and the man, the man gets to decide what you will get for
picking either of the plates i.e. he will fix what you have to face for giving him either the good plate or the bad plate.
I will now explain how we will decide what plate the man gets.
So, at first, you pick the plate that you want – this means that you are picking the other plate for the man.
Look at these two bags that I have – in the next step the man will pick a bead from two bags like these.
Which bag the man picks the bead from will depend on which plate you choose for him.

- If the woman picks the bad plate for the man, he will pick a bean from the “BAD” jar that has only 1 red beads – which means that there is a very high chance that the man will get the bad plate.
- If she picks the good plate for the man, he will pick a bead from the “GOOD” jar that has only one blue beads – which means it is almost certain that the man will receive the good plate.
Let’s go over the rules one more time
1. If the man picks a blue bead, he gets the good plate.
2. If the man picks a red bead, he gets the bad plate.
