Thank you for agreeing to participate in our research. The purpose of the research is to understand how people allocate resources amongst themselves. Everyone who participates and finishes the survey will be rewarded with a 50,000 IDR e-wallet transfer. During the course of the game you will have the opportunity to earn up to 500,000 IDR more.
We are going to ask you to play a game with four other people. These are real people that you will be playing with, who are participating in real time. The instructions for the game are as follows:
1. On the next page, we will randomly assign one person to serve as the public official.
2. Afterwards, the public official will be taken to another page to answer five further questions. There are no right or wrong answers to these questions: it is important that the public official answer these questions honestly.
3. The public official will then be given 500,000 IDR and asked to decide how much of the money he or she wishes to keep to themselves. The remaining money can then be distributed to the participants who were not selected.
4. The public official will then be taken to a page where he or she decides how much of the remaining money to give each other participant.
5. Participants will then observe how much money they received from the public official.
6. Finally, everyone will answer a short questionnaire. You must complete this questionnaire in order to receive your payment.
Before continuing we want to make sure you understand the rules of the game. If the public official decides to keep 200,000 IDR for him or herself, how much is left to distribute to the other participants?
