Now we ask you to make an investment decision. This decision is also for real money; the result of your decision will be added to your account and paid to you.

You start the investment task with a balance of 10 cents. You choose how much of this amount (from 0 cents to 10) you wish to allocate to an investment.

The cents that you choose not to invest will be saved in your account and cannot be lost. You will receive these cents at the end of the experiment.
The value of the cents you choose to invest depends on the success or failure of the investment. The success or failure of the investment will be determined by a computerized random draw, similar to a coin flip. There are two possible outcomes:
  • With 50 percent probability the investment succeeds and you receive 2 times the amount invested.
  • With 50 percent probability the investment fails and you lose the amount invested.

  • The following lists the investment options available, from 0 to 10 cents, in increments of 1 cent. The (remaining) uninvested portion is cash. The last two columns are your final income, which consists of cash and investment income. Please make your investment choice.
