Phase 1 consists of an investment decision that you and your partner make simultaneously and independently of one another. You decide whether you want to invest in a joint group connection. A group connection grants you bonus points and allows you to help each other in the later stages of the experiment. Note, however, that investing is costly and does not guarantee a successful connection. All components are explained below.
At the start of Phase 1 you receive 50 points. You decide how many points (any whole number from 0 to 50) to invest toward forming a connection with your partner.
Each invested point therefore costs you 2 points in immediate earnings, since you forgo the doubling on that point.
