Invitation:

You are invited to participate in a study being conducted by The University of Western Australia (UWA). The researcher, Kiky Srirejeki, is enrolled as a Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Accounting and Finance, Business School, UWA. This study is being conducted in partial fulfillment of a Ph.D. research program for Kiky Srirejeki under the supervision of Professor Vincent K. Chong and Dr. Stijn Masschelein of the University of Western Australia and Dr. Isabel Wang of the Australian National University.

Aim of the Study:

This study aims to investigate the effect of social norms and control systems on individuals' decision-making.

What does participation involve?

In this study, the tasks involve participating in the games that simulate transactions between a manager and an official. Participants will be randomly assigned either as a manager that initiates a transaction or as an official who will respond to a transaction. Each participant will play the game for several rounds and will act in only one role for the entire game. It will take not more than 45 minutes to complete all rounds.

Privacy:

Your participation in this study and any information you provide will be treated in a strictly confidential manner. No identifying details will be used in any publication arising out of this research. The data will be kept in line with the Western Australia University Sector Disposal Authority (WAUSDA) in a non-identifiable format, a password-protected computer, or a secure server. The data will be retained a minimum of seven years after the date of publication, or seven years after the conclusion of the project, whichever is later, then destroyed. The anonymous data may be shared with other researchers for reanalysis.

Possible benefit:

By completing all rounds in the experiments, you can receive a payment between GBP 3.40 to GBP 5.80. The calculation of your payment will be based on the accumulation of a participation reward and the points you earned. The points will be based on the decision you and other participants you are associated with make. In addition, the results of this study will provide an organization with a better understanding of the impact of social norms and control mechanisms in individual decision-making. Once the studies are completed, participants can access the result of the study at the University of Western Australia Research online repository, if they wish.
