Instructions

You have been randomly and anonymously paired with another participant. One of you will be selected at random to be the employer; the other will be the applicant.

If you are assigned applicant you are applying for a job and determining how to build your resume. First, nature will decide your type between good and bad. Only the applicant will be told their type. The applicant then must decide if they want to signal their actual typing (which could be good or bad) with the employer to signal good type for a certain fee. If the applicant chooses to improve the employer will not know whether the applicant actually is a good or bad type. The applicant will always start with 5 points and the fee to signal good typing will cost between 0 and 5 points each round, while signaling actual typing is always free (0).

If assigned the employer you are a recruiter looking to hire someone for your company. You start with a total of 10 points each round and each hire costs 5 points. You will accept or reject the applicant you pair with. You will also see the employee's signal regarding their type. This signal will either be their actual type or improved typing, which could mask their real type. You will know nothing more than what they decide to share.

Payoffs

1: If the employer hires an applicant that is assigned good type the applicant will be awarded 5 points and the employer will get 4.

2: If the employer rejects an applicant both the applicant and employer will be awarded 0 points. The applicant will still be deducted the signal fee should they send an improved signal.

3: If the employer hires an applicant that is assigned bad typing the applicant will receive 5 points and employer will be awarded -5 points.
