Purpose of the study
This study aims at understanding how people make choices. You will face a real effort task, some decision tasks and a short questionnaire.

Your participation
Your participation will likely take about 20 minutes. Thanks in advance for being available for that time. If you agree to take part to the study, we will ask you to give your consent as for the following participant consent form. Thus, participation in the study can happen only if you have read the information written on this page and you have given your explicit consent. As a volunteer you can stop any participation to the study at any time before completion, or withdraw from the study after completion, without giving a reason if you do not wish to.

Your compensation
We will pay you £3.00 to complete the study. In addition, you may also earn a bonus payment based on the decisions that you will make. If you do not complete the study we will not pay you for it. We will use Prolific to send you both the fixed payment and the bonus payment within two business days from the completion of the data collection.

Collected data
No identifying information will be collected during the study. During the final questionnaire you will be asked questions about a few socio-demographic characteristics (year and month of birth, sex, gender, education, range of income, occupation) and attitudes.

Confidentiality
All the information you provide will be collected in a pseudonymized form. This means that your name and other direct identifiers will be separated from the collected research data, that will include only your Prolific identifier. So, linkage to your identity is not possible for the authorized member of the research team.
When you will have completed the study, the software used to analyze the data will compute your bonus payment. Soon after this process, the data will be anonymized, that is your Prolific identifier will be replaced by a random number. Only anonymized data will be used to conduct the data analysis and possibly shared with the scientific community upon publication of the results of the study for replication purposes.

Data storage and protection
The pseudonymized research data will be collected and stored upon collection in the could application platform Heroku. You have the right to request access to your data and ask for erasure of your personal data.
Anonymized data may be presented to others at conferences, or published as project reports or in academic journals or books. Once the research has been completed, and the anonymized data analyzed, it will not be possible to withdraw your data from the study.

What if there is a problem?
If you have a query, concern or complaint about any aspect of this study, please contact the investigators through Prolific by texting the requester associated to this HIT. In this way, your anonymity will be preserved as the researchers will only be displayed your Prolific identifier. You can also contact the researchers at the email address detailed above. In this case, we ask you to report your Prolific identifier and, if possible, to hide your identifying information.

Ethics approval
This study has been reviewed and given a favorable opinion from the Research Ethics Committee of the University of Milan on 20/02/2023, ethics reference n. 14/23.

Thank you
Thank you for taking time to read this information sheet and for considering volunteering for this research. If you do agree to participate your consent will be sought; please see the following consent form.
