Thank you for participating in this experiment. Please ensure you read these instructions carefully before proceeding as there is no option to go back to read them again.
In this task you are required to list your choice of course preferences similar to the process of the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) in NSW and ACT, Australia. For the purpose of this task, you are given an Australian Education Tertiary Rank (ATAR) of 80.00. The ATAR is used to apply for university courses. Each university course has a minimum ATAR requirement, called the Lowest Selection Rank (LSR). Being made an offer into a university course is dependent on whether your ATAR is high enough for the LSR. However, you may also apply for courses whose LSR is higher than your ATAR. The further that your ATAR is from the LSR, the lesser the chance of receiving an offer.
In the drop-down menu, there will be up to 30 courses to apply for. You are able to apply for a maximum of 5 courses. Based on your preferences, a process that simulates the UAC matching will determine whether you are made an offer to a course. This process takes your first preference and externally determines your chance of admission. If you are accepted into your first preference, then you are made an offer to that course. If not, you are then considered for your second preference. This process continues until all 5 preferences have been considered. Note that if you are made an offer to a particular course, you will be paid a bonus monetary amount as well as your participation fee.
There are also 6 courses with guaranteed entry, which have certainty of being made an offer.
Lastly, you may not choose the same course twice, or the same courses you have chosen in previous batches. Each course will be indicated by its course number, the Lowest Selection Rank (LSR) and the monetary payoff of being matched to that course.
