In this experiment, you will be asked to make decisions in several rounds. You will be randomly paired with another person for a sequence of rounds. Each sequence of rounds is referred to as a match. You will interact with the same person for the entire match.

The points you can obtain in each round of a match depend on your choice and the choice of the person you are paired with. Each round you and the other person will choose a number (1 or 2) by selecting the corresponding button on the screen. The table below represents all the possible outcomes:

The Other Participant
Choice 1 Choice 2
You Choice 1 {{ Constants.PayoffCC }}, {{ Constants.PayoffCC }} {{ Constants.PayoffCD }}, {{ Constants.PayoffDC }}
Choice 2 {{ Constants.PayoffDC }}, {{ Constants.PayoffCD }} {{ Constants.PayoffDD }}, {{ Constants.PayoffDD }}

The table shows the points associated with each combination of your choice and the choice of the person you are paired with. The first entry in each cell represents the points you obtain for that round , while the second entry represents the points obtained by the person you are paired with .

That is, in each round of a match, if:

After each round, you will be reminded of your choice, and you will be shown the choice of the person you were paired with.

At the end of each round, there is a probability that the match will continue for at least another round. The probability will depend on your choice and the choice of the person you are paired with. The computer will roll a 6-sided die in every round to decide whether the match will continue for at least another round:

The figure below shows the chances that the match will continue for at least another round:

Remember, if you are in round 2, the probability that there will be a third round is the same as the probability that there will be a tenth round if you are in round 9.

Once a match ends, you will be randomly paired with someone for a new match. You will not be able to identify who you have interacted with in previous or future matches.

Each part of the experiment will generate points that count towards your final payoff. In this part, one match will be randomly selected to count towards your final payoff.

Points earned in this match will be converted to dollars at a rate of 10 points per dollar. You will receive an additional \$5 show-up fee for your participation. You will only be informed of your payoffs at the end of the experiment.
