Johnny Depp was shown a picture of Amber Heard's arm with a huge bruise during the second day of his libel trial, but said he was not responsible for the injury

Johnny Depp denied inflicting a huge bruise on Amber Heard when he appeared in court yesterday.

The Pirates Of The Caribbean actor was shown a picture of this ex-wife's arm with the bruise, but said he was not responsible for the injury.

He was giving evidence at London's High Court in the second day of his libel trial against News Group Newspapers (NGN), and its executive editor Dan Wootton over an April 2018 article which labelled him a 'wife beater' - an allegation he strenuously denies.

Sasha Wass QC, for NGN, said Ms Heard had started photographing her injuries so she could show him what he had done later.

Depp said he had never seen the photo before, so if that was her motive it had not happened.

'I didn't hit Ms Heard and furthermore I have never hit Ms Heard,' he said.

Depp has denied all claims he was ever violent towards his ex-wife.

He in turn has accused Heard of abuse during the marriage, which she denies.

Depp returned to the witness box on Wednesday for the second day giving evidence in the libel trial.

The court heard how Depp joked he was going to leave a poo outside Heard's door for her to step in, 'thinking it was one of the dogs'.

It came after Depp made claims in statements presented to court on Tuesday that he decided to end their marriage following the discovery of a poo in their marital bed.

Texts read in court yesterday also saw how Depp joked about 'f*****g Amber Heard's burnt corpse' in a sick text exchange with fellow actor Paul Bettany.

The trial continues today.
