J ohnny Depp and Amber Heard are set to divorce after just over a year of marriage, according to reports.

Court records published by celebrity site TMZ show that Heard filed for divorce in Los Angeles on Monday citing “irreconcilable differences” and is seeking spousal support from the Hollywood star.

The publication also reported that the couple did not make a pre-nuptial agreement when they tied the knot 15 months ago and that the Pirates of the Caribbean star has asked a judge to reject Heard's claim.

The news comes days after the death of Depp’s mother, Betty Sue Palmer, on May 20 who died, aged 81, after a long illness.

The actor was spotted without his ring as he worked the red carpet at the LA premiere of his latest film Alice Through the Looking Glass earlier this week.

The last time he was seen with Heard was when they recorded a video apology after illegally smuggling their dogs, Pistol and Boo, into Australia.

The actress was given a one-month good behaviour bond of $1000 and pleaded guilty to one count of falsifying border protection documents. Two other charges of illegal importation were dropped.

Depp and Heard met on the set of 2011 film The Rum Diary while Depp was still in a relationship with Vanessa Paradis – the mother of his son Jack and daughter Lily-Rose.

The couple revealed their engagement in January 2014 and married at a private ceremony in Los Angeles in February last year before celebrating on Depp's private island in the Bahamas.

It will be the Depp’s second divorce after splitting from ex-wife Lori Anne Allison after two years of marriage.
