Amber Heard 'to testify next week' against ex-husband Johnny Depp in defamation trial

Amber Heard is reportedly set to testify next week just days after ex-husband Johnny Depp told the court he was a victim of domestic abuse.

The bombshell defamation trial in Virginia, which began earlier this month, is set to last another three weeks, and jurors have already heard lengthy testimony from the Pirates of the Caribbean star, who took to the stand this week.

Johnny is suing his ex-wife for $50 million, as he alleges she defamed him in an article for The Washington Post in 2018, in which Amber said she was a victim of domestic abuse.

He vehemently denies the allegations.

The Aquaman star launched a countersuit against the 58-year-old, suing him for $100 million.

The trial, which has been watched by eagle-eyed viewers around the world, has already seen Johnny allege he was abused by Amber during his four days on the stand.

On Monday, the court will see the 36-year-old give her testimony to jurors as the first defence witness in the defamation case, and is preparing to be questioned by Johnny’s team of lawyers.

A source told Deadline that Amber wll be a “highly effective weapon” against her ex-husband, as she’s “been nothing but well composed and pretty conservative in court without having said a word”.

The trial at Fairfax County Courthouse is set to conclude on May 19.

On Thursday, Johnny’s former bodyguard Malcolm Connolly described how he had noticed injuries on the star’s face, as he alleged the relationship between the couple had become volatile.

He told the court Johnny was “quiet” as Amber became more “dominant” and “demanding”.

Malcolm, who hails from the UK, worked for the award-winning actor in 2006, and said at the beginning of Amber and Johnny’s relationship, it was “all lovey-dovey”.

During his testimony, he said things “started to change”, and “Amber started getting a bit more feisty, demanding”.

“I could see that Amber wanted to wear the pants in this relationship. That was pretty obvious,” he told the court.
