Johnny Depp claims Amber Heard was 'fond of MDMA and mushrooms' after denying hitting her

Johnny Depp has told court his ex-wife Amber Heard was fond of MDMA and mushrooms and also used other illicit substances.

The 58-year-old actor continued his testimony in his $50 million libel trial against Amber, 35, and claimed he saw her take MDMA about 20 times over their years together, as well as mushrooms about six or seven times.

Depp also told the court in Virginia he saw her take 'high velocity' speed as well as other medications.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor also denied again he had hit Amber after he was asked about an alleged first instance of domestic violence in 2013.

The incident was allegedly sparked by Amber laughing at Johnny's 'Wino Forever' tattoo, which he famously had modified from 'Winona Forever' after he split from actress Winona Ryder in the 90s.

Depp told the court the incident 'didn't happen' and repeated he had 'never struck a woman in my life.'

He continued: 'Certainly not... if she decides to make fun of a tattoo that I have on my body... that's like going into someone's journal and picking out things you don't like'.

The actor told the court he 'always thought of my body as a journal to mark experiences' and he has had tattoos after the births of both of his children.

Earlier, the court was told by Depp he would use the word 'monster' as a way of 'placating' Amber.

The actor said he didn't want to have '45 minute arguments' in which the pair would go back and forth saying 'you're a monster', 'no I'm not', 'you're a monster', 'no I'm not'.

He added: 'What do you do? You accept her vernacular... the word that she uses' and use that 'to placate her'.
