A very graphic photo of Johnny Depp's severed finger was shown in court as the actor detailed an infamous row he had with ex-wife Amber Heard.

The court heard that the couple had an argument during a trip to Australia in 2015, when the 58-year-old actor was filming the fifth instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean.

Amber, 35, had previously claimed that Depp had been abusive to her during this trip and had described the time Down Under as a 'three-day hostage situation'.

The trip was shortly after they were married and Johnny said that Amber had got upset discussions they were having about pre-nuptial agreements and post-nuptial agreements.

Johnny told the court that he had locked himself in 'at least nine bedrooms, bathrooms' in the rented house, which he described as a 'labyrinth', as Amber looked to continue an argument.

He said that Amber was 'banging on the doors, screaming obscenities'.

The actor said that eventually the banging stopped and her heard Amber walking away and that the situation had 'became very emotional'.

Depp said that he went downstairs to a bar in the property and told the court: 'I was a mess, I was a wreck.'

He said that he took a bottle of vodka and poured two or three 'stiff' shots and said that when Amber found him at the bar, she 'of course started screaming... 'the monster', and all that'.

He told the court that Amber took the bottle and 'hurled' it at him and it smashed behind his head.

After he took another, bigger bottle of vodka and poured another shot, Depp told the court that Amber was 'flinging insults' before grabbing the second bottle and threw that at him.

He told the court that the bottle shattered and some of the bottle hit his finger.

He said that he 'felt no pain whatsoever' to start with but his finger was heating up and when he looked down, the tip of his finger had been severed.

Depp said: 'I was looking directly at my bone... sticking out... blood was pouring out.'

He told the court that at this moment it was 'probably the closest I've ever been' to having a nervous breakdown.

When asked which finger was severed, Depp held up his right hand and told the court: 'It's the funny looking one'.
