Amber Heard claims that Johnny Depp 'tried to kill her'

Johnny Depp's attorney, Camille Vasquez, continued her cross-examination of Amber Heard on Tuesday, as the defamation trial between the former married couple at Virginia's Fairfax County Courthouse continues

Amber Heard recalls still loving Johnny Depp 'very much' after he 'tried to kill' her

Amber Heard described her 'mixed relationship' with former husband Johnny Depp in court on Tuesday morning.

Ms Heard told Virginia's Fairfax County Courthouse how she recalls being scared of her ex-partner - after she alleged he tried to kill her - but also stated how at the time, she loved him 'very much'.

Mr Depp is suing Heard for alleged defamation over an op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post in 2018, in which she stated she was a victim of domestic abuse. The actor was not named in the piece.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star's legal team resumed their cross-examination of the Aquaman actress on Tuesday morning - with Mr Depp's attorney Camille Vasquez quizzing Ms Heard regarding her testimony about the former couple's 2015 fight in Australia.

Mr Depp previously testified that Ms Heard launched a vodka bottle at home during an argument, causing the glass to severe the tip of his fingers. Ms Heard denies her former husband's claims and has testified she believes his injury was sustained when the actor smashed a wall-mounted phone during a drug-fueled rage.

'I didn’t assault Johnny in Australia. I didn’t assault Johnny ever,' Ms Heard told the court on Tuesday.

Depp's attorney Camille Vasquez went on to ask the actress whether she was scared of her then-husband during the time of their fight in Australia in 2015.

'I have a mixed relationship with Johnny — one in which I'm scared, one in which I love him very much,' Ms Heard responded.

After Mr Depp's attorney repeated her question, the mum-of-one added: 'This is a man who tried to kill me, of course it’s scary. He’s also my husband.'

Mr Depp and Ms Heard began dating in 2011, after meeting on the set of the set of the comedy-drama film, The Rum Diary. They tied the knot in a civil ceremony in February 2015.

Ms Heard filed for divorce from Depp in May 2016 and obtained a temporary restraining order against him.

The final terms of the divorce settlement were agreed in January 2017, with the Pirates of the Caribbean actor required to complete a payment of $7 million to his former wife over the course of the year.

Ms Heard is countersuing her ex-husband for $100million (£81million).
