Welcome to this experiment. In the next 5-10 minutes you will be playing one round of a Prisoner's dilemma game. This is a classic game theory scenario that involves two individuals, each faced with the choice of cooperating with or defecting from the other.

Game Instructions

The original scenario, as the name suggests, involves two suspects who are arrested and charged with a crime. However, in this experiment, you and one other participant are business partners. You are working on a joint marketing campaign to enhance their market exposure and save costs. As a participating business partner, you face the strategic choice of either cooperating or defecting from your collaborative commitment. The success of the campaign and the distribution of the respective profit (measured in Experimental Currency Units (ECUs)) hinge on the decisions made by you and your collaborator. The potential outcomes based on your and the other players' choices are as follows:

Cooperate Defect
Cooperate 180 / 180 0 / 200
Defect 200 / 0 120 / 120

In this scenario, the dynamics unfold through three distinctive pathways, each with its own set of outcomes:

Please, note again that you will be playing this game for one round only and you will not be aware of the other player's decision when making your own decision.

You will be able to see the game instructions again when making your final decision.
