The study comprises a checkout task and a survey. Upon completion of the study, you will receive a participation fee of ${{ C.COMPLETE_PAY }} plus a potential ${{ C.BONUS_PAY }} bonus. The bonus is determined by your choice and your performance in the experiment. To receive the cash reward, you must complete all parts of the experiment, including the checkout task and survey. If you leave the experiment before completing it, you will not receive any payment. This study is expected to take no longer than 15 minutes to finish.



1. The Checkout Task

This experiment simulates the retail check-out process. Imagine you are shopping at a grocery store. You add {{ player.item_n_to_play }} items to your shopping cart and proceed to check out. At the checkout, you must choose between a self-checkout kiosk or a cashier.


2. Checkout Options

Option 1: Self-Checkout. You have the option to self-checkout the {{ player.item_n_to_play }} items in your cart. For each item you must {{ player.player_input_info }}. To proceed, you must enter the product information correctly and click "Next Item." Refer to the screenshot below for an example.

Option 2: Cashier Checkout. You can choose to go to a cashier. In this experiment, a “simulated” cashier will enter the product information for you. It takes {{ player.cashier_time_per_item_lb|to0 }} - {{ player.cashier_time_per_item_ub|to0 }} seconds for the cashier to process one item. You must click “Next Item” to proceed until the cashier has finished all {{ player.item_n_to_play }} items. Refer to the screenshot below for an example.



3. Your Payment

Upon completing the experiment, you will earn ${{ C.COMPLETE_PAY }}. If the checkout process takes less than {{ player.checkout_bonus_time|to0 }} seconds, you can earn an additional ${{ C.BONUS_PAY }} bonus. Please note that the bonus applies to both checkout options, self-checkout and cashier checkout. Please note that in order to receive a cash reward, you must complete all sections of the experiment, including the checkout task and survey. If you exit the experiment before completing it, you will earn $0.
