We are asking you to participate in a research study about your beliefs in breast cancer related risks. We will describe this study to you and answer any of your questions. This study is being led by Yudi Wang, from Economics Department at Cornell University. The Faculty Advisor for this study is Nicolas Ziebarth, from Economics Department at Cornell University.

As part of the research, we may not tell you everything about the purpose of the research or research procedures. At the conclusion of the study, we will provide you with further information.

What we will ask you to do

We will ask you to take a survey. Most participants complete the survey in 10-15 minutes

Risks and discomforts

We do not anticipate any risks from participating in this research. However, we may ask questions that trigger you to think about your chances of having breast cancer and may present information related to breast cancer. Specifically, we may present numerary information on your 5-year and lifetime predicted breast cancer risk from the trusted Gail Model. We caution that while the information that we may provide is from a trusted model, they are just educated estimates. Please consult health care professionals for any additional information. Please exit the survey if you feel uncomfortable at any point during the survey

Benefits

You may gain some educational knowledge on breast cancer by participating in the study

Incentives for participation

You will receive a fixed payment of $4 by completing the study, and there is a small chance that you may receive bonus up to $20. You will have a 10% chance to be randomly assigned to the treatment of value elicitation. If assigned to this treatment, you will have a chance to receive bonus up to $20 depending on your choices.

Privacy/Confidentiality/Data Security

We do not anticipate to collect any data that might involve identifying information. We anticipate that your participation in this survey presents no greater risk than everyday use of the Internet.

Sharing De-identified Data Collected in this Research

De-identified data from this study may be shared with the research community at large to advance science and health. We will remove or code any personal information that could identify you before files are shared with other researchers to ensure that, by current scientific standards and known methods, no one will be able to identify you from the information we share. Despite these measures, we cannot guarantee anonymity of your personal data.

Taking part is voluntary

Participating in the study is voluntary, and you may choose to exit at any point after the study begins. However, the fixed payment will only be awarded to those who complete the study
