Instructions

In Part 2 of the experiment, you will be asked to make a series of choices in decision problems. You will see 12 questions as below. You will state whether you prefer Option A or Option B in each question. You should think of each question as a separate decision you need to make. However, only one question will be the ‘question that counts’ and will be paid out. In particular, at the end of the experiment, the computer will randomly draw an integer number between 1 and 12. The number chosen indicates which question will be paid out.

Your earnings for the selected question depend on which option you chose: if you chose A in that question, you will receive $3.0 and the other participant who will be matched with you will also receive $3.0. If you chose B in that question, you and the other participant will receive earnings as indicated for that specific question. For example, if you chose B in question 2 and this question is selected for payment, you will receive $3.0 and the other participant will receive $2.0.

After you have completed all your choices the computer will randomly draw an integer numbered between 1 and 12 to determine which question is going to be paid. Then the computer will randomly and anonymously match you with another participant in the experiment. While matching you with another participant, the computer will also randomly determine whose decision to implement. If the computer chooses your decision to implement, then the earnings to you and the other participant will be determined according to your choice of A or B. If the computer chooses the other participant decision to implement, then the earnings will determined according to the other participant choice of A or B.

The actual earnings for this part of the experiment will be determined at the end of the experiment, and will be independent of other parts of the experiment.
