Goal Setting

Before the 40-minute period begins, you can set two Goals.

• A goal for yourself, and

• A goal for another participant in the room.

Note these are performance Goals for the entire 40-minute period. The Goals indicate the number of correct tables to be completed either by yourself or by another participant during the 40-minute period of the task performance. Producing more or less tables than the stated Goal neither generates monetary rewards nor induces penalties to any of the participants.

The Goals can be any (non-negative) integer number. If no Goal is selected (or it is set to zero) you will be assigned “No Goal”.

During the 40-minute period, you will be assigned with equal probability either the Goal for yourself or the Goal selected by another participant in the room for you. In other words, it is equally likely that you will be assigned the Goal that you set for yourself or the Goal that another participant in the room has set for you.
