You are about to participate in a decision task. For this task, you will be randomly paired with another participant from this study. Note that you will not know, now or later, who the other participant is. One of you will be selected at random to be Participant A, and the other will be Participant B. You will learn whether you are Participant A or B prior to making any decisions.
This study includes several decision rounds. At the start of each round, Participant A will receive 200 points. Participant A will then choose how many of their 200 points to send to Participant B (any integer amount between 0 and 200 points is possible). Participant A will keep any amount not sent to Participant B.
Before Participant B receives this amount, it will be tripled by the experimenter, so that Participant B receives 3 times the points sent by Participant A. Then, Participant B can decide to send back some or all of the amount received back to Participant A. The amount sent back will not be tripled.
To summarize, Participant A's payoff will be composed of any points kept of the initial 200, plus any points sent back from Participant B. Participant B's payoff will be the tripled amount sent from Participant A, minus the amount sent back to Participant A. This process will repeat for several rounds.
