{{block title}} CONSENT FORM {{endblock}} {{ block content }}
You are invited to participate in a research study on decision making and competence. As a part of the study, we are conducting online experiments with participants on Prolific. As a part of the study, you are invited to participate in an online experiment session, which will last a maximum of 15 minutes.
We are conducting short experiments which involve solving a real effort task called “Counting Zeros”. We are also collecting data on your personality characteristics along with demographic information. This experiment is funded by the Centre for Innovative Data in Economics Research (CIDER) at the Vancouver School of Economics. It will contribute to a graduate dissertation.
If you consent to participating in the study, you will be given detailed instructions for the experiment on the next page. Once you have gone over the instructions, you will begin the tasks. After completing the tasks, you will be asked to answer a short survey on your personal characteristics. Once you complete the experiment, you will be asked to enter the completion code you see on the last page, on Prolific. The experimenter will review your submission, and transfer your payment to your Prolific account in less than 24 hours.
You will receive £2.34 ($2.92) for completing the experiment.
You will receive £0.10 for every correct grid you answer as a part of the task. You may also receive a bonus payment of £0.8 ($1), which will be explained later in the experiment. Thus, your payment will range between £2.34 - £4.14 ( $2.92 - $5.17)
Your participation in the study is entirely voluntary. You may refuse to participate or withdraw from the study at any time. You have the right to choose to not answer some or any of the questions. Your completion of the experiment indicates your consent to participate in the study.
Your study data will be handled as carefully and as confidentially as possible, to the extent allowed by law. Researchers will not have access to any of your personal information, only your Prolific ID. During data collection, your data will be stored online on O-tree servers and the survey team and the research team will have access to it. Later, it will be stored in encrypted OneDrive folders and only the research team will have access to it.
The research team may submit the results from this paper to an academic journal for publication. Some journals require that data be made accessible to other researchers. When this happens, data is often uploaded as supplemental material online with the paper, thus providing access to anyone with access to the journal. In such an event, the research team will remove personal identifiers before the data is made public. Once the data is made available, you will not be able to withdraw your data. By consenting to participating in this study, you consent to your de-identified data being made open access sometime in the future.
Participation in the study is unlikely to involve added risks to you.
If you have any questions or doubts about the survey, you can contact our research team at prerna96.kundu@gmail.com.
If you have any concerns or complaints about your rights as a research participant and/or your experiences while participating in this study, contact the Research Participant Complaint Line in the UBC Office of Research Ethics at 604-822-8598 or if long distance e-mail RSIL@ors.ubc.ca or call toll free 1-877-822-8598."
By continuing, you are consenting to participate in the study.
