{{ block title }} Instructions - The Puzzles Task {{ endblock }} {{ block content }}
Remember that for the entire experiment you have been randomly assigned to be the "Decider"

  • For each round, you will be randomly paired with a Performer, who is a fellow Prolific participant.

  • The Performer will solve 3 puzzles in 1 minute. In each puzzle, the Performer will choose the missing element that fits the pattern of the puzzle.

  • Below is an example of the puzzle task:
  • The number of correct puzzles your paired Performer solves in a round will directly affect the payment you get from this Task, which we call the Task payment. You can either get a high Task payment or a low Task payment, and the probability of you getting a high Task payment depends on your Performer's performance in that round.

  • Each correct puzzle solved by your Performer increases the probability that you get a high Task payment. For example:

  • Number of correct answers by the Performer Your Task payment
    0 correct answers a high payment with 20% probability
    1 correct answer a high payment with 30% probability
    2 correct answers a high payment with 40% probability
    3 correct answers a high payment with 50% probability

  • You will learn about your Task payment, and will NOT be informed of how many puzzles your Performer solved correctly in that round.

  • You will then decide how much to pay your Performer in that round. You will divide a separate pot of money ({{ separate_pot }}) between your paired Performer and another randomly chosen Performer from the study. Any unassigned money will go back to researchers and therefore will NOT be kept by you.
