{{ block title }} Instructions: The Puzzles Task {{ endblock }} {{ block content }}
Remember that for the entire study you have been randomly assigned to be the "Performer"

  • For each round, you will be randomly paired with a Decider, who is a fellow Prolific participant.

  • You will solve 3 puzzles in 1 minute. In each puzzle, you will choose the missing element that fits the pattern of the puzzle.

  • Below is an example of the puzzle task:
  • The number of correct puzzles you solve in a round will directly affect the payment your paired Decider gets. The Decider can either get a high payment or a low payment, and the probability of getting a high payment depends on your performance in that round.

  • Each correct puzzle solved by you increases the probability that the Decider gets a high payment. For example:

  • Number of correct answers by you Payment of the Decider
    0 correct answers a high payment with 20% probability
    1 correct answer a high payment with 30% probability
    2 correct answers a high payment with 40% probability
    3 correct answers a high payment with 50% probability

  • Your paired Decider will learn about their payment, and will NOT be informed of how many puzzles you solved correctly in that round.

  • Your Decider will then decide how much to pay you. The Decider will divide {{ separate_pot }} between you and another randomly chosen Performer from the study. Any unassigned money will go back to researchers and therefore will NOT be kept by the Decider.
