You are being invited to participate in a research study titled Social Learning and Interactions. This study is being done by Jordi Martinez-Munoz from UC San Diego. You were selected to participate in this study because you are an adult (older than 18 years) user of Prolific who have completed at least 15 surveys in Prolific with an approval rating above 95%.
The purpose of this research study is to analyze how people use their own and others’ information for relevant objectives and the role of previous interactions about different topics on this process.
Your participation in this research is expected to take approximately 5 to 6 minutes.
You will be compensated at a rate of USD $15 per hour for your participation, subject to passing the attention checks. Additionally, you have the opportunity to earn bonus rewards at a rate of USD $20 per hour.
On average, participants can expect to earn USD $2.5 in total, resulting in an overall rate of USD $25 per hour.
If you agree to take part in this study, you will be asked to: (1) Evaluate and choose between statements regarding assessments about various social topics and
(2) Guess the proportion of blue balls in a digital urn with 100 randomly selected balls that can be blue or red. Your answers to these questions may be observed by other participants, and you may observe other participant’s answers as well. At every time, neither you nor the other participants will know anything about each other except for their answers to those questions.
Your participation in this study is completely voluntary, and you can withdraw at any time. Choosing not to participate or withdrawing will result in no penalty or loss of benefits to which you are entitled.
This research study may address topics that could be illegal or socially sensitive where you live. In particular, it may include questions on animal rights, abortion, gender identity, and body image. If discussing the topics addressed in this study will represent a possible hazard to you, your family, or your acquaintances’ freedom, reputation, or social standing please consider these additional risks of participation when deciding whether to take part in this research study.
In addition, the use of electronic means of communication (e.g., the internet) may not be secure, private, or confidential in your community.
