Welcome at our Experiment

Objectives and methodology of the Study

The Aix-Marseille School of Economics invites you to participate in this online experiment to understand behavior in trade settings. During this experiment, you will be asked to do some tasks and the answers will be recorded by the experimental program. In some parts of the experiment, you will interact with another participant in a trade setting - either as a seller or as a potential buyer. If you have any urgent questions, please contact the principal investigator by mail: eva.raiber@univ-amu.fr. The experiment consists of four parts in which you can earn money. At the end of the experiments, you will be asked to do a test measuring social intelligence (without any monetary incentive) and a short questionnaire about your socio-economic background.

Payment

As a baseline payment, you will receive {{ session.config.participation_fee }} if you complete the experiment and the survey at the end. The experiment and the survey will together take between 40 and 50 minutes. You might have to wait a couple of minutes for the session to be filled. During the experiment, you will be able to earn additional money that depends on your actions and those of the others. These gains can go up to 10 pounds, average gains are around 4-5 pounds. These will be added to your payment as a bonus payment.

Anonymity

The information recorded during the experiment will not allow any conclusion about the identity of individual persons. There will be no matching between the data generated during the experiment and your private data on Prolific. Consequently, the analysis of the data and the presentation of the results of this experiment will take place exclusively in an anonymous form. The anonymous research data will be archived and might be made available for other researchers for research purposes.

Participant’s rights

Your participation is completely voluntary. If you do need to stop the experiment for whatever reason, there are no negative consequences other than not being eligible for the baseline payment. However, note that this can have a negative effect on the payment of other participants so please only sign up for the study if you have 50 minutes available.

This experiment is funded by the Aix-Marseille School of Economics (AMSE). The ethics committee of the Aix-Marseille University has studied the experimental protocol and has given a favorable view (Reference number: 2021-05-06-03). The principal investigator is Eva Raiber, assistant professor at the Aix-Marseille School of Economics. Contact: eva.raiber@univamu.fr
