**[Promotion w/o pre-commitment condition only]**

After Round Two, if you are the manager of the group, you will select one of the two workers to promote. You will be given the Round Two performance for both the selected worker (# of correctly adjusted sliders and # of problems decoded) and the unselected worker (# of correctly adjusted sliders) before having to make this decision.

Before Round Two starts, if you are the manager of the group, you will select one of the two workers to promote for Round Three.

In Round Three:

If you are the promoted worker, you will split time between the slider task and the decoding task for 3 minutes (1.5 minutes on the slider task and 1.5 minutes on the decoding task). You will be compensated based on your performance on BOTH tasks in Round Three. You will have a higher base salary and a higher rate for each correct slider submitted compared to the previous two rounds. You will also receive payment for each correctly decoding problem submitted (more details later).

If you are the non-promoted worker, you will continue performing the slider task for 3 minutes. You will receive the same base salary and slider task rate as the last two rounds.

If you are the manager, you will continue to perform the decoding task for 3 minutes. Your compensation will be based on the Round Three performance for both the promoted worker and the non-promoted worker if you correctly decode a pre-specified number of problems. Otherwise, you will receive 0 Lira.

Specifically, if you correctly decode a pre-specified number of problems:

For each slider correctly adjusted by the promoted worker, you will receive a higher slider task piece rate as compared to the previous two rounds. For each problem decoded by the promoted worker, you will receive a decoding task piece rate (more details later).

For each slider correctly adjusted by the non-promoted worker, you will receive the same slider task piece rate as the prior two rounds.

IMPORTANT: The promoted and non-promoted workers’ Round Two earnings are unaffected by the promotion decision. The effects of the promotion begin in Round Three.
