Recall that because sales demand for Product H was lower than the sales demand for Product L, the firm needed only two Level A workers to produce Product H. Due to a recent increase in sales demand for Product H, the firm needs additional Level A workers to produce Product H.

The top performing Level B workers have been chosen for promotion to the Level A worker position to help meet the increased demand for Product H. Each newly promoted worker will be assigned to a group consisting of yourself and the other original Level A worker assigned after the Placement Period. Thus, you and the other original Level A worker will belong to multiple groups, each with each one group consisting of three workers (the two original Level A workers (including yourself) and one newly promoted Level A worker).

As in prior periods, at the end of each work period, you will be provided feedback on your performance. Specifically, a message will appear on the computer that tells you the total number of math problems that you have solved correctly in the period.

In addition to receiving feedback on your own performance in each remaining period, you will also receive feedback comparing your performance with the performance of the other two Level A workers in each group to which you belong. Specifically, you will be given your current period performance rank ranging from #1 (highest) to #3 (lowest). Your performance rank in each period is calculated based on the number of advanced math problems you have correctly solved in that period.

You will only be provided information on your performance rank and not on the rank of the other two higher-level workers in each group to which you belong. Similarly, no other higher-level worker will know how your performance compares to the rest of the higher-level workers. In other words, you will see where you rank among the higher-level workers in each group to which you belong, but the other higher-level workers in these groups will not be able to see where you rank among them.

For example, you may see the following:

“You answered 8 questions correctly. The following table shows your performance rank in each group to which you belong based on questions answered correctly.”

Group Your Rank
Group 1 2
Group 2 2
Group 3 3
Group 4 2

Performance rank ranges from 1 (the highest) to 3 (the lowest).
