Title of the study: Donation and Expectations.

Length of the study: Up to 20 minutes.

Eligibility: In order to participate in this online study, you must be 18 years of age or older.

Purpose of the Study: Understanding altruistic choices and expectations.

Expected payment: You will receive a guaranteed participation fee of $1.00 for completing the study. Additional payments depend on the decisions made by you and other participants. Maximum additional payment could be between $0-5.

Your Job: You will be participating in a sharing task.

Confidentiality: This project is being conducted by researchers at University of California, Davis to understand human behavior and expectations. The information collected may be published in articles or academic presentations. At no point of the study would we ask you to reveal any personally identifiable information about you, other than your gender, age and education. MTurk ID is needed to process the additional payment. Your personal identity, MTurk ID or your involvement as a research subject will never be published or revealed. All personal identifiable information will be deleted after processing your payment.

Risks: To our knowledge, there are no risks involved in participating in this study.

Voluntary Participation: Participation is on a purely voluntary basis. This project does not involve any physical or emotional risk to you beyond the risks of daily life. Your involvement in this experiment may benefit the field of economics by helping to advance theories about human behavior around expectations. Your involvement in this study is appreciated, and you may quit participation altogether at any time without receiving any penalty or prejudice. In later stages, you will be prompted with quiz questions to test your understanding of the task. Failure to answer correctly on most questions will result in your disqualification from this study.

Right to Withdraw: Should you wish to withdraw before you start doing your first task, your data set in the study session will be permanently deleted. Once submitted, data cannot be withdrawn as our strict anonymity protocol requires us to delink the data from the identity of the individual as soon as it is submitted.
