The amount of damage players can expect to recieve is the disaster severity multiplied by their respective chance of being harmed. Think of severity as the number of "hits" you will receive and your chance of being harmed as the probability that each "hit" results in 1 point of damage.
Note: The damage you actually receive may differ slightly from your expected amount due to random variation in the game.
