Professor Nathaniel Burke (WVU) and Doctoral Candidate Christine Bretschneider-Fries (WVU) are conducting a research study about economic choices and understanding people’s choices. You have been invited to participate in this study because you are a student at West Virgnia University who is 18 years of age or older. There will be approximately 300-400 total participants in this study.
If you agree to be in this study, the following will happen:
We will clarify all questions to avoid any unnecessary confusion. If, at any point, you are uncomfortable answering the questions, you reserve the right to leave the survey environment.
Your responses in this study will be entirely anonymous. We will assign all participants an anonymous participant ID, in which your name will not be linked to the ID number and no one will be able to match you with the decisions you make. In our analysis, we will only be able to identify your data by the participant ID. Research records will be kept confidential to the extent allowed by law. The University of Arkansas Human Subjects Committee may review research records.
The alternative to participation is to not participate. The only direct benefit to you is the payment you receive based on your performance during the study. The investigator, however, may learn more about economic decision-making and society may benefit from this knowledge.
There are no foreseeable risks to participating in this study.
Participation in research is entirely voluntary. You may refuse to participate or withdraw or refuse to answer specific questions at any time without penalty or loss of benefits to which you are entitled. If you decide that you no longer wish to continue in this study, you will be required to notify an experimenter before leaving the laboratory.
If you have any questions about the study, you may reach Nathaniel Burke at nathaniel.burke@mail.wvu.edu or Sherry Li at SLi@walton.uark.edu. You may also call the University of Arkansas IRB Compliance Coordinator at (479)575-2208 to inquire about your rights as a research participant or to report any research-related problems. Please let one of the researchers know if you would like a copy of this consent form to keep.
For online participation: please type your full name and provide your @mix.wvu.edu email address below to indicate your consent to continue.
