Commonly referred to as "flamethrower," the Mechanical Incendiary Device (MID) is perfect for quickly and effectively dealing with multiple hostiles in an enclosed area. They work well outside, but a flamethrower's best application is in places such as sewers. A good tactic involves running or backpedaling while igniting the hostiles in your pursuit. Be warned, however, it takes time for a burning zombie to die. They do not feel pain as humans do, so until it is burned into an incapacitated state -- or such a state where its muscles and sinew are no longer operational -- the hostile will continue pursuit.

Weapon tip: A flamethrower is also great for disposing of toxic remains and for making sure that the dead stay dead. Remember, an incinerated (until there's nothing but bones and ashes remaining) zombie is the only safe kind of zombie.
