It can be hard to say what appeal adults find in the adventures of SpongeBob Squarepants, particularly when we haven't smok... er, had any inspiration first. Still, when you consider the little guy's popularity has put him on networks such as MTV and Spike, afforded his own feature film and a parade of guest stars from Johnny Depp to David Bowie, its easy to forget its origins as a kids' show.
SpongeBob has even drawn the promotion of Metallica, but frankly we're not sure which side should feel stranger about that.
