Good news, everyone!
In addition to the awesome Futurama app announced by David X. Cohen, we
were on hand for the San Diego Comic-Con 2011 panel, where we saw new footage
and learned bits from upcoming episodes!
Check it out:
- We saw the anime portion of upcoming episode
"Reincarnation!" Introduced by the
God-entity, the sequence brilliantly lampoons the anime genre, from the stilted
dialogue and quick cuts of over-the-top action!
Zoidberg becomes the hero of the piece as he bravely performs a dance of
peace to quell the rage of an invasion of dancing aliens!
- As the cast was introduced, upcoming bits for
their characters were doled out! We mentioned previously that Planet Express
would get a new soda machine that Bender impregnates! Hermes starts chopping body parts off and
replacing them with cybernetic components to be more efficient! Calculon competes in an Acting Championship! Zapp Brannigan falls for Leela's mother! The professor's parents are alive and well on
the Near-Death Star!
- Scruffy will get a boon as well, becoming a
notary next year! Matt Groening mentions
that the original idea for Scruffy was to have him crushed by the Planet
Express ship on a weekly basis.
- No word on the future of putting past seasons on
Blu-Ray, unfortunately.
- The show likes to poke fun at Richard Nixon, and
Billy West's principle gripe comes from when Nixon drafted him!
- We also saw some amazing clips from future
episodes, and committed some of the best bits to memory! We saw: the space whale in action from
"Mobius Dick," snippets of Futurama as an 80s video game, the professor licking
George Washington's head and transporting the crew back to colonial times,
Bender tangling with Fry's monster pet and Zoidberg treating Fry's pin wounds
with acupuncture. And what's this? The
Nimbus attacking Earth, and tractor beaming a saran-wrapped New New York into
space? What's this about the Professor
turning into a yeti?
Be sure to keep tuning into Futurama Thursday nights on
Comedy Central, and check out the new Futurama app announced at the panel.
