It's a testament to Neil Patrick Harris's sex appeal that he can play a totally believable womanizer. Your girlfriend would easily kick you out of bed and to the curb if you tried any of Barney Stinson's tricks, but NPH does it all and gets laughs the entire time.
Women love Barney and men want to be Barney. Despite sharing the stage with That Girl from Buffy and That Dude from Freaks & Geeks, NPH owns his role to such a degree that he's always Barney, never The Guy from Doogie Howser.
