Of course, not content to leave well enough alone, following Eve’s quick win over Alicia Fox, WWE had Zack Ryder stagger out to the ring, prompting your most irritating friend to note the irony in the fact that Ryder, once incapacitated by Kane, is now using a cane to get around. Stop being friends with that guy already, would you?
The real problem here wasn’t Ryder’s inability to pretend to use a cane, or even his inability to do play a scene for anything but cheap laughs, it was the fact that instead of having Eve build up heat for herself by cheating, or getting rough with Alicia, or you know, having her do the thing everyone keeps accusing her of doing (using men to her own selfish purposes), they just had a guy come out and call her a “hoeski” in front of a stadium full of people. It’s misogynistic and Limbaugh-esque, but while Rush loses sponsors when he calls a woman a “slut” on the radio, Zack Ryder gets cheered for more-or-less doing the exact same on television. Yay, wrestling?
As dopily as Ryder sold it, however, I’m totally fine with what happened next, when Eve gave Ryder a big old wet one on the lips, as it could be an indication that we’ll actually see Eve start to be the evil slut we’ve been repeatedly told she is, moving this storyline from a misogynistic one, to possibly merely a tasteless one.
