Five astronauts get zapped by cosmic rays and return to Earth as The Fantastic Four and Doctor Doom.
Fantastic Four may not succeed on all levels, but it's eager to please and has a big heart, and that's really all that matters when it comes to telling the story of Marvel's First Family. Director Tim Story may be a little too green to conduct such a large-scale slam-bang symphony, but he brings on the clobberin' time at some crucial moments, making for a rather pleasing if not completely satisfying or cathartic adaptation. Jessica Alba is gorgeous, though her blue contacts take some getting used to - Michael Chiklis comes off best as the cranky and tortured Ben Grimm/The Thing, with Stan Lee making a cameo appearance as mailman Willie Lumpkin.
Tim Story (director), Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis, Julian McMahon. Kerry Washington, Laurie Holden, Hamish Linklater, David Parker, Kevin McNulty.
