An Army colonel investigates a mysterious incident during the first Gulf War.
Who knew during the first Gulf War that we'd still be over there almost 20 years later? Courage Under Fire was one of the first Hollywood movies to take place in war-torn Iraq, and it's not just a gimmick; it's one of the best examinations of modern-day warfare out there. Denzel Washington is excellent as Lt. Colonel Nathaniel Serling, an officer with a simple desk job until a soldier's death in combat unearths a hissing den of conspiracies and cover-ups. This one kept us guessing from start to finish and features Matt Damon in one of his first roles and Meg Ryan in one of her rare dramatic ones.
Edward Zwick (director), Denzel Washington, Meg Ryan, Lou Diamond Phillips, Matt Damon, Michael Moriarty, Bronson Pinchot, Scott Glenn, Sean Astin.
