S.D. 'Snake' Plissken is a former U.S. Army officer who served in the Special Forces Unit known as Black Flight. He received two Purple Hearts and was the youngest soldier to be decorated by the President during World War III. Sometime later, Snake's disillusionment with the U.S. government's involvement with something referred to as the "Leningrad Ruse" prompted him to turn to a life of crime. Despite rumors of his demise ("I heard you were dead" is usually what someone says upon meeting him), Snake was captured after breaking into the U.S. Federal Reserve in Denver and subsequently forced to participate in a mission to rescue the President, whose plane had crash-landed behind the walls of the maximum security prison that is Manhattan Island. Snake succeeded in his mission and was recruited 16 years later to retrieve a disk that controls EMP satellites from the desolate wasteland known as Los Angeles...
