Mary Kelly was one of several "unfortunates" that witnessed the secret marriage between an heir to the English throne and a commoner, an act that would tear apart the very fabric of Buckingham Palace if it went public. The Queen charges her personal physician, Sir William Gull, to take care of the matter - the result is the terrifying nocturnal reign of Jack the Ripper, who starts killing off the women one by one in the ritualistic ways of a Freemason. Mary ends up romancing the investigating police officer, Frederick Abberline, and manages to be the only one of the women to escape Jack's wrath, eventually leaving London to live a quiet life by the seaside, secretly adopting the child that came from the scandalous marriage.
